| Born in 1937 in Valanidia-Woiu (Greece). In 1951, he came to Poland with his family as a political émigré. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław under the supervision of Professor Stanisław Dawski in 1964, then he was employed there as an assistant professor in the years 1964-67. After leaving the university, he decided not to cooperate with the general glass industry, by choosing the difficult and risky profession of an independent artist-glazier. He made this decision being aware of the difficulties involved, from obtaining permits for projects in glassworks, through the high costs of glass production, to the need to gain the recognition of customers, and thus – a market for the works he created. Tasios Kiriazopoulos was one of the most outstanding artists of the Wrocław school, although he is a representative of the younger generation. In the early period of his work, his works perfectly reflected the philosophy of Professor Dawski's teaching. The forms were sparing, sometimes even purist, and the appropriately selected color complemented the design. The artist created series of works based on the same concept, but differentiated their individual elements by height or width. In many of his works from this period, you can find inspirations from ancient Greek vessels. In addition to functional forms, inscribed in the style of Wrocław glass, he designed objects of a typically decorative nature, as well as strictly sculptural, multi-element objects, giving the viewer the opportunity to freely compose its individual parts. Later, he additionally introduced surface decoration with matting or grinding. Tasios Kiriazopoulos' output is impressive, during two decades of creative activity he designed over 2300 pieces. He has gained recognition of art critics, museologists and individual recipients, his works have found customers in Poland and abroad, finding their way into musea and private collections. He has participated in most exhibitions and presentations of glass in Poland and abroad. By deciding to take the risk and choosing the path of an independent unique glass maker, he achieved the intended success. This was influenced by several elements. As a designer, he was consistent, his actions were carefully planned, devoid of improvisation. He became involved with the steelworks in Tarnów and Bronisław Münzbergr, who worked there, who, according to many, was the best metallurgist in Poland. In the mid-1980s, the artist decided to return to Greece, where he took up pedagogical work in artistic education. From that moment on, he dealt with glass sporadically.

| De l'artiste lui même :
Slight correction: The first form (low) in the series "Ornito", (not "Ichtio"), 1979, sodium glass, colorless, slowly formed. Unique shape. Completed in HSG "Tarnów" in Tarnów.
Similar forms from this series were purchased (from an individual exhibition at the National Museum in Wrocław in 1979) By : a) National Museum Wrocław. and b) Jelenia Góra Regional Museum.
Form (high) from the "Spires" series. 1984, sodium glass, multi-layer, colorless and mass-colored, free-formed. Unique form.
Made at HSG "Tarnów" in Tarnów, not at HSK "Violetta" Stronie Śląskie. A similar but different (higher) form is the property of the National Museum in Wrocław.
Tasios Kiriazopoulos. Ps. I inform you that the Tasios Kiriazopoulos forms are presented on the FB page "Collector's Magazine." Kind regards. |

| Dear Nico, My colleague Ms Anna Pietrzak from the Handicraft Department of the Museum will prepare answer to your enquiry as regards art works by Tasios Kiriazopoulos. She will answer you soon personally or via my translation into English. In any case, you certainly possess the objects of quality. Yours sincerely, Iwona Rajkowska. Curator Contemporary Art National Museum Kielce - Poland. Tasios Kiriazopoulos was an artist much appreciated in Poland as proved by the fact that his works were purchased to the museum collections constantly from the 1960s till him leaving Poland. The National Museum in Wrocław possesses the largest collection of his works. In 1964 Kiriazopoulos graduated from the State Higher School of Visual Arts (present the Academy of Fine Arts) in Wrocław at the atelier of Stanisław Dawski, painter and printmaker, and then at the Glass Faculty. The most important aim of Prof. Dawski’s program which laid foundations of famous Wrocław glass school was to prepare future design artists to cooperate with industry. Hence basic interdisciplinary studies encompassed among others graphic art and photography. The Wrocław school characteristics were simple, symmetrical, harmonious form, linearity and subdued colour scheme. In the beginnings the artist created functional forms (bowls, vases, candlesticks etc.), then he started to give up functionalism and he gradually took glass sculptures up. In the years 1964-1967 Kiriazopoulos worked at the Wrocław academy, then he worked as a freelance artist till the end of the 1980s and him leaving Poland. Artists in the socialistic Poland (PRL - the Polish People’s Republic) worked according to rules clearly defined by the state. On the one hand, working at an state institution guaranteed safe existence, on the other, it meant submission to the state and its demands. Very few designers decided to work outside the state institutions. The work of an artist-glass designer was particularly difficult, because it required cooperation with state glassworks, but Tasios Kiriazopoulos chose that kind of activity. In Poland works of the artist are also in the collections of the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Karkonoskie Museum in Jelenia Góra, Castle Museum in Malbork, National Sea Museum in Gdańsk, National Museum in Szczecin, Górnośląskie Museum in Bytom, Art Gallery BWA in Wałbrzych, and outside Poland his works are in the collections of The Bowes Museum Barnard Castle, Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough, Museum für Kunshandwerk in Frankfurt am Main, Kunstgewerbe Museum in Berlin and Kunstsammlungen der Veste Coburg in Coburg, to name a few. Ms Anna Pietrzak. Best wishes, Iwona Rajkowska Curator Contemporary Art National Museum Kielce - Poland. |

Mme Anna Pietrzak. Meilleurs vœux, Iwona Rajkowska Conservateur Art Contemporain Musée National de Kielce - Pologne. Commentaires Google Traduction |
