"This confirms what I suspected, the drawing was made by Dr. Adolf Melchior, a wellknown doctor in Haarlem. Next to his practice he was also a prolific artist. We have many of his drawings in our collection, among these works from the same period (1945-1946), making fun of the German soldiers. Some of his works were used to illustrate books that he wrote, and I think some were also used as illustrations in works of others. It seems that your drawing was printed, and the proceeds were donated for a fund for rebuilding the country after the war. At least that is what I read from the tekst written. Probably the prints were made by Joh. Enschedé Zonen in Haarlem, the printing firm in Haarlem; later on they specialised in printing banknotes and such, but at the time they also printed books. I think he was friends with some of the directors of the firm. It is his selfportrait to the left.
Kind regards,
